Apathy or antipathy?

This writer thinks that voters in Salford suffer from ‘apathy’. What an idiot. When I worked in Langworthy, I often had to invite residents to come to public meetings. They didn’t. Was it because they couldn’t be bothered? Not at all. It was because they hated the Council, the Councillors, the MPs and the Council workers – and wanted nothing to do with them. That’s not ‘apathy’. It’s mutual dislike, distrust, and a long bred fear of authority. Not that they can’t get round to it!
